Back to School Distribution Project

The problem

Education is one of the most important pathways to creating opportunities and improving the future of children. However, for some families, the cost of school materials, uniforms and school fees can become a barrier to a child's education.

Our approach

At Halimat Humanitarian Foundation, we believe that humanitarian support should respond to real needs within communities. The Back to School Distribution Project was developed around practical educational needs rather than simply distributing items without considering their purpose. By combining learning materials, school fee support and school uniforms, the project addressed different challenges that can affect a child's access to and participation in education.

Who we support

The project directly supported children at Government Secondary School, Ushafa, Bwari, Abuja, Nigeria. The intervention included 100 children who received learning materials, 6 children whose school fees were supported, and 10 children who received school uniforms.

Activities

• Distributed learning materials to 100 children to support their daily learning activities
• Supported 6 children with payment of their school fees so they could continue their education
• Provided school uniforms to 10 children to support their confidence and sense of belonging at school
• Engaged directly with the school community to understand ongoing educational needs
• Reduced some of the financial barriers associated with education for vulnerable children
• Encouraged continued participation in education and raised awareness of the challenges some families face
